This project found me looking into a lot of lost species, and one that inspired me was the mystery of the American bird, the ivory-billed woodpecker. It was thought to be extinct, due to losing its forest habitat early in the 20th century, but it has been spotted very rarely now and again. People are campaigning to protect their habitat in case they are still there to save the rare few that may be left. I wrote an instrumental / soundscape piece called 'We Watch The Forest In Case You Are Still There' . It pictures being in the middle of a forest looking for these mysterious birds. I also used one of the last verified recordings of the birds hooting and wood pecking from April 1935 - bittersweet sound, bittersweet mystery.
