about

This track is dedicated to all the beautiful seabirds who make their homes along the Scottish coastlines, whose numbers are plummeting, due to a number of factors combining into a perilous situation for young fledglings.
The premise for this year's compilation was triggered by the hundreds of dead and dying fledglings who washed up along Ayrshire coastlines, which was highlighted in a video by conservationist Flo Blackbourn.
Inspired by volunteering with nesting seabird populations in 2018 and 2019 on the Isle of Handa (managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust), the migrant crisis, and a 2015 conversation with field recordist Chris Watson about plastic pollution he had observed at sea.

lyrics

Seabirds calling on the wind to tell me what they saw
Plastic islands floating out upon the water

And where will we run to, darling
When this world is gone?
And who will we turn to, darling
If we've got no-one?

Seabirds calling on the wind to tell me what they saw
Bloated bodies sinking down into the water

Seabirds calling on the wind to tell me what they saw
Dying oceans everywhere, across the water
